In 1990s, the Ocher Machine-building Plant, like many Russian enterprises, experienced a streak of bad luck: mass layoffs of workers began, workshops crumbled, communication lines decayed, the production curtailed every year. As a result, the town-forming industrial giant soon turned into a gloomy monument from the "wild capitalism" era. Now it's probably impossible to find the people who caused the collapse of the unique plant: as it is said in a famous Russian novel in verse, some are far distant, some are dead... But temporary workers fell into oblivion, and after that totally different people came to the plant – competent, willing to revive the once powerful enterprise, and, above all, local – from Ocher.
Currently, the plant has established three main production branches: the production of sucker rods for oil extraction, the repair of railway carriage wheelpairs and the installation of large-format metal structures. 820 people currently work at the enterprise, and the number of job vacancies is constantly growing.
- The investment program is developed for five years. "This year, at the end of September, we begin to repair the thermal unit No. 2, and now we are buying the necessary equipment and components," said Mikhail Nekrasov, OMBP Director for Production, during the governor's visit.
"The plant has weathered the storm, but now things are improving. The enterprise is developing, and its production is competently diversified. In 2011, the production of metal structures began, which is extremely promising for oilfield workers, gas workers and civil engineering. The management team understands the future development clearly, and there are ideas how to try out new market outlets. I am very impressed. People know exactly what they should do, thus we will support the enterprise," said the governor to Ocher residents.
